Felicity Mara: Sixteen Paintings (St Ives, 2008)

Mara works with great economy to reduce her forms to their essence, and liberate their full power ... For all their rigour, the paintings possess an extraordinary quality of joy. Helen Dunmore

I' don't often depict the things around me in a literal way, but I am always aware of working with them, so that the boundary between outside and inside remains fluid. In Porthmeor Studios I have become even more aware of this sense of transition and transformation between the environment and the work. In the studio it can feel almost like being on a ship - there is history underfoot but also a great openness. I want my work to have this feeling of openness.' 2014
