Moved to Cornwall: 1947

Studied: Camberwell School of Art 1947-49 , St. Ives School of Painting 1946-47 prisoner-of-war 1941-45
Taught by, amongst others, members of the pre-war Euston Road group 1947-49
Employed as visiting lecturer at the Bath Academy of Art 1952-54
Became Gregory Fellow in Painting at the University of Leeds for two years 1954-56
Taught part-time at Leeds College of Art 1956
Full-time lecturer in the Department of Fine Art, University of Reading 1965
Appointed Reader in the University of Reading 1970
Moved studio from St. Ives to Newlyn, Cornwall 1974
Professor of Painting at the University of Reading.
Awarded the Honourary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the CNAA 1977
Retired from Reading and was made Professor Emeritus 1981
Elected Royal Academician 1992
Made Knight of the Realm for services to Art and Art Education 1998
