Mike Becket is currently Head Scenic Artist for the Royal Opera House and is best known for his outstanding work as a set and costume designer for both fringe companies, the Royal ballet and for Birmingham Royal Ballet. In the theatre he has worked with most leading designers and artists including John Craxton, David Hockney, Jock McFadyen, Sidney Nolan, Victor Passmore and John Piper.
'Mike Becket turns his attention to the parti-coloured multi faceted audiences with as much humour as he shows in capturing a moment on stage. His compositions intimate and filled with irony and humour are incidental and full of circumstance at the same time.' Robin Dutt art critic and curator.
'Mike Becket worked as a scenic artist and set designer alongside David Hockney, Victor Passmore and Jasper Conran before turning to his own painting and his own themes. The audiences of the ballets and operas he designed are now the focus of his attention, as he paints with witty characterization, everyone from the figures in the orchestra, people in the stalls and boxes, to backstage glimpses of tired musicians enjoying the interval. With warmth and humour, he casts his eye on them all.' What's on Magazine.
